What Are Dental Veneers?

A dental veneer is a customized shell that a dentist fits over the front of your tooth.

Patients request dental veneers when their teeth have stains, chips, cracks or other issues, such as damage from trauma or decay. As such, dental veneers are considered an important part of cosmetic dentistry, to conceal imperfections and flaws in the appearance of your teeth.

Types of Veneers

Multiple types of veneers provide many different benefits.. During your consultation with the dentist, we’ll explain in detail these various types to help determine which option is best for you.

Composite Veneers

Made of resin, these veneers require curing (with light) to harden them. This process involves etching your teeth so we can apply the veneers.

Minimal Prep Veneers

This type of veneer is faster to apply and is less intensive a procedure. You may not need any anesthesia during placement.

Removable Veneers

Often referred to as snap-on or pop-on veneers, you can remove these at any time. However, they sometimes make it harder to eat food and may make your speaking voice sound different.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers require some preparation in order for them to be installed. The preparation requires the removal of some of your enamel from your original teeth. The porcelain veneers will be customized to match the appearance of your teeth for a natural look.

How Do Dental Veneers Work?

The process of getting dental veneers starts with a consultation. You’ll come in for an appointment to evaluate your gums and teeth. The dentist needs to see if you are a candidate for dental veneers. Individuals who have either gum disease or advanced cavities will need to have those health issues addressed first before we can apply your customized veneers.

After you have been approved for veneers, your teeth will need to be prepped. This process begins with us removing a small amount of enamel from your tooth to make room for the veneer. This helps your smile look as natural as possible.

Next, we’ll need to take impressions of your teeth. These impressions will then be sent to a dental lab for a few weeks to create your personalized dental veneers. Once they are ready, we will schedule an appointment to install your veneers.

The dentist will verify that your veneers have the correct color and shape and that they fit properly on your teeth. Only then will it be time to permanently bond the veneers to your teeth using special dental cement. At this point, we’ll check to see that your bite is correct and adjust the veneers as needed.

Once the veneers are permanently in place, you will immediately be able to resume eating and drinking as soon as the appointment is over!

Who Are Dental Veneers For?

Those who are interested in improving the look of their smile are eligible for dental veneers. They are designed to address problems such as:

* Misshapen teeth, or teeth that have become broken or chipped

* Teeth that seem too small in your mouth

* Stains that do not go away even after professional teeth whitening services

* Gaps or spaces in between your teeth

What Are the Benefits and Drawbacks of Dental Veneers?

If you are interested in veneers but are worried about whether the pros outweigh the cons, we’ll be happy to discuss your options to help you decide if veneers are the right choice for you.

Benefits:

  • Improved Confidence
    • Your new dental veneers will do wonders for optimizing the appearance of your smile! If you’ve been shy about smiling or even opening your mouth to speak, the dental veneers will restore your confidence.
  • Strength
    • The porcelain veneers we provide at Deliz Dental Studio are strong, durable, and stain-resistant.
  • Easy Maintenance
    • You don’t need to do anything special in terms of oral care to maintain your new dental veneers. Proceed with your usual routine of flossing and brushing your teeth daily, and setting regular appointments for checkups at our office.

Drawbacks:

  • Enamel Removal
    • The dentist must first remove a thin layer of enamel from your natural tooth to fit your dental veneers. This is permanent, so make sure you understand this necessary aspect of getting veneers.
  • Teeth Sensitivity
    • You might experience additional sensitivity in your teeth in response to temperature changes, such as when sipping a hot beverage or eating ice cream.
  • Cost of Dental Veneers
    • Funding dental veneers will be a financial investment due to the permanent nature of this cosmetic procedure.
  • Difficult to Insure
    • In some cases, insurance might cover part of the cost of dental veneers when the dentist determines that they are necessary. If you have tooth damage that comes from trauma or decay, this procedure may be considered restorative, along with cosmetic. Speak to your insurance provider to learn about your coverage options.

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Veneers

1. How much does a full set of veneers cost in Florida?

The cost of dental veneers in Florida will vary depending on several factors, including:

  • The complexity of the treatment. Some patients may require additional dental work before we can place their veneers.
  • The material you use for your veneers. Composite resin veneers cost less than porcelain veneers. We will be happy to discuss the differences between these two types.
  • The number of teeth you want to cover with veneers. The more teeth involved, the more expensive it will be.

For patients who feel anxious about visiting the dentist, we offer options for sedation. This additional service can increase the cost of putting in your dental veneers. Contact us for details.

2. Can I get veneers and pay monthly?

We provide convenient payment options if your insurance does not cover the costs of your dental veneers or if you do not have dental insurance. Please call us today to discuss your budget and a payment plan.

3. Will insurance cover veneers?

Insurance policies vary. Insurers consider dental veneers to be a cosmetic procedure and will not cover them. However, if your dentist strongly suggests that you need dental veneers to address tooth damage after you’ve experienced decay or trauma, insurance may cover part of the cost.

Book an appointment for a consultation at  Deliz Dental Studio, and we’ll assess your teeth. Please contact your insurance provider to learn more about their coverage for veneers to gain a better understanding of how to prepare for this procedure financially.

4. Can you go back to normal teeth after veneers?

Since the procedure of adding dental veneers includes removing some enamel from your actual teeth, the answer to this question is “No.” You cannot put back enamel, so your teeth will no longer be in their original condition once we have applied dental veneers.

Consider your veneers to be permanent. Once you get them, you cannot go back to your normal teeth.

5. Do you keep your real teeth under veneers?

Indeed, you do keep your real teeth under the dental veneers that we apply. While the dentist does need to remove some of the original tooth’s enamel before applying the veneer, the rest of the tooth remains underneath the veneer. It will function as it did before you got veneers.

If you have a question that’s not covered here, please get in touch with us.
